Out of all of the hundreds or thousands of products I see bloggers post about there are a fair few products that I see more often than others because they are undoubtedly super popular. Perhaps unsurprisingly for those of you who know me personally I own a lot of the products I see frequently. Because I’m a huge make-up fan/hoarder and if someone is raving about something I need to try it to see if it’s as good as they say. There’s a lot of hyperbole on Blogger, but this post is 100% honest. I’m going to be telling you which cult beauty products are worth it and where you can find alternatives if they aren’t.
I wanted to start with the mascara I know you must have heard of which is Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. Is it worth it? YES! I cannot rave enough about this mascara but yes it is definitely worth buying. I first tried this when I went to Sephora in Times Sq I had a little sample mascara. At first I thought that the photos of the before and after lashes on the front of the packaging were heavily photoshopped. But as soon as I used the product I knew I was wrong. This lengthens and curls your lashes perfectly. I wouldn’t trade it for any other mascara.
It’s very difficult to find base products that are perfect so I’m forever trying new foundations. The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is fairly new on the market. Is it worth it? No. I was really disappointed in this foundation as it does’t last long on the skin at all. I read a review that said it was good for oily/combination skin but it definitely does not do well on my oily skin type. The coverage is very light too and I have to build up with concealer. I’d recommend you look elsewhere for a new foundation! One setting powder I absolutely swear by is Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder. Is it worth it? Yes. This is better than both my Chanel and MAC setting powder’s which cost 10x (no exaggeration) than the Rimmel one. We need to expel the idea that price tag = better quality product, it definitely doesn’t! I’d highly recommend Stay Matte. I’m also an experimenter when it comes to selecting concealer. Recently I purchased MACs Pro-Longwear Concealer. Is it worth it? Yes. I bought this in a shade that’s 2 shades lighter than my foundation so it acts as a concealer and a great highlighter base. It’s fabulous at hiding nasty purple under eye circles and blemishes. It looks fab if you dot a bit on your cheekbones, chin and forehead as a highlight too.
Highlighters are a fairly recent craze what with the obsession with strobing and all. I bought two highlighters both of which I really like but one I was far more excited about than the other. Jaclyn Hill x Becca’s Highlight in Champagne Pop has been a super big bestseller at Sephora and for good reason. Is it worth it? Yes. The highlighter is a beautiful golden, shimmery shade that catches the light perfectly and looks wonderful. One thing i would say is that when I wear a light foundation the highlighter definitely needs a lot more blending as it really does stand out. But when I’m a little sun kissed it looks beautiful. Anastasia Beverly Hills powder Countour Kit was a purchase I made around 6 months ago. Is it worth it? Yes. I think this is one of those products that is perfect for beginners in contouring as all of the shades are there and it’s also great for MUAs because the product is fab. I’ve really loved teaching myself how to contour with this palette and powder is definitely easier to work with over cream. Keeping with ABH products the ABH Dipbrow Pomade is a great brow essential. Is it worth it? Yes. This pomade is definitely my fav brow product (although I do really like Brow Wiz from her too) The creamy pomade seems thick and too heavy for a natural brow but it really isn’t. If you use a small amount you can achieve a really natural looking brow that looks like it was done with a light pencil. This pomade lasts all day too! ABH features a lot in this post but she really deserves her place. If you’re a fan of lipstick that lasts all day I’d highly recommend ABH Liquid Lipsticks the one pictured is in the shade ‘Milkshake’. Are they worth it? Yes! Her range of colours is huge and these glide on really easily and last for such a long time!
The Beauty Blender is obsessed over by so many bloggers. But is it worth $20? No. But the Real Techniques Blender and Teal Sephora Blender are great. Are they worth it? Yes. These do exactly the same as the beauty blender and are around half the price. They create a flawless foundation base. I’v recently gotten into applying false lashes because I finally figured out how to apply them properly. A glue that I’ll always use is Duo Eyelash Adhesive. Is it worth it? Yes. There’s a reason why it’s the only glue MAC artists use! It keeps your lashes in place all day through all sorts of things. Definitely worth it! Ever since Kylie Jenner used Velvet Teddy bloggers have gone crazy over it. Is it worth it? Yes, I think all MAC lipsticks are even if the shade doesn’t suit me I’ll still find a use for it! MAC lipsticks are one of the most popular lipstick brands on the market and definitely are with bloggers. I adore their range of colours and finishes but the matte finish has to be my go-to. Now of course, we all need something to help us keep our make up in place. Unfortunately, the Urban Decay De Slick setting spray isn’t it. Is it worth it? No. It made no difference to the longevity of my make-up on days I wore this to days where I left it at home. I’d argue that Rimmel Stay Matte does better to keep my make-up in place than this spray. Fix+ by MAC also doesn’t do much but is great for using with eyeshadow to make it more pigmented.
I hope this helps you guys who were on the fence over whether to buy these products or not! Let me know which one’s you’re surprised about and which ones you’ll be trying soon!
