Summer is in full swing which means it’s the perfect time to get the family and friends together for a little garden soiree. Every year my family and I have a huge BBQ with all of our family and friends. My mom and I typically spend the whole morning preparing food and decoration and drinks. We also generally try to make everything outside super comfy and cosy which has included buying things like new BBQ’s, getting dad to power wash the decking and fluffing up the pillows on an outdoor sofa set we invested in a while back. I find preparing these kinds of events really fun so I thought I’d share some inspiration and ideas that I’m going to be attempting in August.
I’m definitely going to be grabbing my dad’s old wheelbarrow – which we now never use but I feel like I saw a lot more frequently when I was a child, to turn it into a Beerbarrow. Putting beers and ciders in a big old bucket it my usual trick. But I think that the wheelbarrow gives it a nice little touch.
I love the idea of having a movie night outdoors. The set up on the tent looks a little to temperamental for British weather though since the wind is likely to disrupt the sheet. Popping a sheet over some decking and projecting it onto that sheet seems like a sturdier option to me. Instead of summer garden party you could always host an outdoor movie night, complete with blankets and snacks. This would definitely be better suited if you have friends and family that are at work all day.
One inspo idea that I can credit my friend Cara to is the flowers in mason jars. She had a bunch of mason jars with wildflowers and small ribbons and lace tied around the middle of them. They really brightened up the tables and looked so lovely. Going to a local flower market is a way to save money on expensive store bought flowers. You can get so much more for your money and really make a difference to a table set up.
I’m from a family that loves DIY and we always have spare bits to create something for the outdoors. I know that we always have spare decking, wood and the tools to get creative so I looked at some DIY pieces to add to the garden. I like the look of the wooden shelf that’s used as a flower pot stand. For a garden party you can always use this as a way of displaying various drinks etc. The shelf store bought is £150, which I personally find ridiculous when you can buy decking and wood from a fiver. The wooden tables, chairs and even this swing for a child all adds a very rustic touch to a garden.
I’m completely in love with the rustic boho garden vibe. I think the big wooden swing is something I’m going to try to make when I have a weekend free. It looks like a big project and I don’t want to mess it up! It would make a perfect garden reading chair for those warm nights.
I hope you guys liked this DIY’s and Garden Party ideas! I’ve always loved getting creative and summer is my favourite time of year so there’s no better time for me to get busy with DIY’s. What are some things you like to do in prep for a summer party? Let me know down below!
