Advice on Ring Buying
There are always multitudes of people on my Facebook feed becoming engaged over Christmas time. To be honest, I think it has to be one of the most perfect times to do it. You’re most likely with your family, everyone’s mood is just all around improved and even the ugliest of places like the back streets of where I live in London can look pretty when they’re covered in snow.
But is an engagement the only time you can be treated to a ring?
There are also, a million other reasons to treat yourself to a ring at Christmas time. I have four rings that I wear without fail every day and not one of them is engagement rings (obviously). Three of the rings are from my mom and dad for various things such as birthdays or a Christmas. The other one I received from my Auntie for my 21st birthday. All of them have a very special place in my heart and I would feel naked without them.
Most of my rings are from Tiffany, which is one of my go-to places to buy jewellery. It’s classic, great quality and it’s not at all as expensive as one might think. Of course, I never treat myself to anything on the more expensive displays! If you’re not sure where to buy rings then this helpful jewellery shops guide for London can come quite in useful. Or you can ask your friends and family whose jewellery you like where they got their pieces from!
Deciding on what to treat yourself when you’e spending a lot of money is also key. You don’t want to do it on a whim and find out that you’ve blown money on a ring that won’t be in fashion next year or one you’re not really that in love with. With something like an engagement ring I think going for modern diamond engagement rings are the best bet. Although, I am very partial to aqua blue stones in engagement rings. You’ll have to make sure that your partner is passionate about a colour stone.
If you’re buying for yourself, then you can get really creative and honest with all the things that you love in a ring. Go quirky, something weird or even something on a market place where you’re currently travelling! I’ve seen some stunning rose quartz rings here in Morocco that I would love to buy for myself!
If you’re stuck on what ring to buy or whether or not it’s too frivolous to buy yourself a ring for an occasion like Christmas, graduation or birthday Life is an Episode, offers a bunch of different advice articles on buying rings that are super helpful. Also, apps such as Reddit are also super useful for gaining advice into that sort of thing as there are so many sub-reddits where you can find info linking to a certain topic (including big clothing and jewellery buys). My boyfriend, Jay, is obsessed with the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and travelling Reddits. So much so, that he now wants to take us both travelling indefinitely after I’ve finished my MA!
I know I’d love to have another ring to add to my collection this X-Mas, so maybe I will buy myself the rose quartz one I spotted in Essaouira this week!
