Christmas day is a day unlike any other day in the calendar for me. It’s my favourite day of the year, I just adore Christmas. I spend most of the morning in my PJ’s or dressing gown, having woken up ridiculously early from excitement.
For the past few years I’ve spent Christmas in hotel rooms, which is usually greeted with some sympathetic looks and sighs. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. My family like to travel for Christmas and spend it in a new place or Disney World (the happiest place on Earth on Christmas day and you’re giving me pity looks?). But once the present wrapping is all done and dusted, you’re searching the house for batteries to power whatever new device/weird toy you’ve been bought and it’s time to settle down for X-mas dinner, what do you wear?
I love wearing dresses for any special occasion so chances are on Christmas and New Years day I’ll be wearing some glittery or sparkly new dress. I’ve been into the celestial trend this winter and loving the colours burgundy and emerald so I’ll probably be opting for a dress that fits into one or both of the categories.
You can’t go wrong with a burgundy dress at this time of year. The colour never goes out of style and I haven’t met a woman that looks bad in this colour. The velvet picks from ASOS are gorgeous. Chi Chi London also has some really great styles that are a bit more ‘special occasion’ looking.
I bought an emerald dress from ASOS a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. I wore it to my best friends birthday party and felt great the whole night. Plus, it was velvet so it was doubl-y on trend. You can get it here for £20 now. If you have a small waist and big hips like I do it’ll look so, so flattering.
I doubt that the celestial star trend will make its way into S/S18, even though I really want it to. So now is really the only time to get my star spangled dress obsession out of the way. NastyGal has some really amazing star print dresses and even handbags at the moment. I also spotted a really cute black jacket in H&M that had moon and star stitching over it for £50. I can’t find it online so you’ll have to have a bit of a hunt in person if you want to grab it!
In these photos I’m wearing a tried and trusted red satin skater dress from Missguided. It’s been a while since I bought any dress-y dresses from Missguided to be honest with you. I first wore this in my second year of University to a Colours Ball and I loved it! Even though someone from my Cheer team was wearing the exact same one haha!
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with upcycling your clothes this Christmas. You already spend so much on food, presents and decorations that you don’t have to spend extra on something new to wear. But if you want to treat yourself to a banging new outfit, then you definitely should!
What are you planning on wearing for Christmas day? Do you feel inspired by any of the trends? Or are you going to do your own thing?
