I love presents. I think all people love presents but whether or not they want to admit that is a completely different story. Both receiving and giving presents is great fun and everybody does (secretly) love a nice surprise. Just so long as someone doesn’t tell you they have a surprise for you and then wait forever to give it to you. That sucks.
Last Minute Presents for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day, in my opinion, is a weird ‘holiday’. It isn’t a holiday because we don’t get the day off work, but the fact that all stores are decorated with red and pink paraphernalia would have us think otherwise. Valentine’s Day is kind of like a watered-down holiday. I don’t go all out for Valentine’s Day, but I do love getting little presents for the one I spend it with. I’m excited to give Jay his present (although I did nearly spill the beans as to what it is by accident the other day) and I’m also excited to see what he’s gotten me. You cannot go wrong with gift sets for women or beard care for men. Jay already gave me one of my presents because he was so excited about it – he is terrible at keeping secrets.
Gift Guide for Guys
I mentioned in a Christmas gift guide post, but if your boyfriend has a beard you really cannot go wrong with buying him stuff for his facial hair. They take care of that hair better than I take care of most things in my life and they never get bored of receiving things for their beard/moustache. If your boyfriend has facial hair, it really is a gift for you because you’ll never be stuck for presents. Try Murdock London or Mr. Natty for beard stuffs.
Clothing is a bit of an odd one for boys. But opting for accessories is a good idea. Things like hats, belts, wallets are all really nice presents that will also get a lot of wear. I think that underwear may be a bit suggestive if you’ve just started dating (this especially goes for men who are looking at buying their second date partner a red lingerie set for Valentine’s Day – cool down there soldier), so I would avoid undies.
I’ve often given books for Valentines Day. This sounds like a very boring present, but books are often really thoughtful gifts that can help you learn a lot about the person who gave it to you. I love books so I’m always happy to receive them. If your man isn’t really into reading (mine isn’t hugely into it) then buy specialist books – Jay is huge on books about sales and I bought him a travel book for his birthday that he seemed to like.
If in doubt, go for a gift card. People tend to stray away from gift cards feeling that they seem to be impersonal. However, gift cards are a good gift (I stand by this vehemently). Even though I myself am reluctant to give them, I am always happy to receive them. it means that the person gifting you didn’t waste their money on something you won’t enjoy or just something un-neccessary that will gather dust. Moreover, they don’t have to be impersonal, you can buy gift cards for your partner’s favourite stores so you’re also showing you know and care about their interests.
Gift Guide for Girls
NOW, I did just say lay off buying your partner underwear if you just met. However, if you know the other person well then underwear can be great. I love getting treated to undies (although I do see that it’s beneficial for Jay in more ways than one). I’ve recently fell in love with the lingerie at Honey Birdette, if you get your bits in the sale you can save a lot of money on some really high quality lingerie. ASOS also has some really great sexy lingerie picks with affordable price tags.
Every Christmas and Birthday I always receive a bath and body set, gift sets are a great gifting option as they’re super easy and tend to be quite affordable but will definitely be appreciated by your other half. I’d highly recommend gift sets from Lush, the Body Shop, Jack Wills and Sanctuary in Boots. All of them smell great and are really good value for money.
Flowers are an obvious option for Valentine’s Day, but they are one of the best gifts to receive. I recently ordered some flowers for my mom’s birthday from a site called Sereneta Flowers and they were really affordable in comparison to brands like Interflora! I heard a rumour that Aldi has 100 roses for £25 available at the moment but I haven’t seen for myself if that’s true!
What gifts to you give at Valentine’s Day? What do you like to receive?
