When it comes to redecorating your home, the kitchen is not the most exciting place to start. Personally in our household, the Kitchen belongs to Jay most of the time because he’s the more creative cook. But the kitchen is also where we spend a lot of time together, so we are keen to make it nice and have the best stuff that makes making food just that much easier. A full kitchen remodel can be quite costly, and if this is something that just isn’t in your budget right now, you may think there isn’t anything else that you can do. But small changes can refresh your kitchen and make it a nicer place to be in.
Painting the kitchen doors
If you have a kitchen door then one of the first things you can do is consider a repaint to refresh the room. Depending on what you go for, it can change the whole look. However, not everyone even has a kitchen door (our apartment is open plan, so we don’t!) A lighter kitchen cupboard door could make your kitchen appear more brighter and airy. It is one of the easiest and most budget friendly ways of updating your kitchen.
Changing your accessories
Updating your accessories in your kitchen to something that has a brighter colour, or even goes with something in a different room can look very nice. People tend to add colour to their kitchen through their kettle and toaster models, the cups they may have on display or even the work surface chopping or protective boards. Changing these to something different or in tone with the rest of the apartment can look lovely and like you’ve put a lot more effort into your interior design than you have.
Adding a feature walls
Another thing to think about would be adding a feature wall to your kitchen. It could be as simple as painting a main wall a different colour that could match in to the accessories you have on display or a colour in your kitchen that you want to showcase. I’ve always really wanted to paint a wall using the chalkboard paint so I can use it to write notes, or ingredients that we need to pick up when shopping. If you have the space it could come in really useful!
Be different with lighting
Maybe you like the idea of creating more light in your kitchen or adding a modern touch. Changing orange lighting in the kitchen to something whiter can make a kitchen look a lot brighter or even things like under cupboard led lighting to give it a real modern finish. It depends, of course, on your whole aesthetic in the kitchen. But it is nice to have things light, airy and modern in the food prep space, with something cosier for the dining room.
Change one big aspect
Finally, if you do a have some budget for your kitchen just not enough to replace it entirely then think about changing one big feature of the room. You could add tiles to the walls or a new splash back. You could replace the flooring to give it a different look. Maybe even just changing the cupboard doors in the kitchen to a new style or adding a new table and dining element.
Treating yourself to some new kitchen appliances can also make cooking and food prep a lot easier to get through. One appliance I’m always using is a really affordable Blendville blender, I use it for everything from soups to smoothies.
Have you guys recently done up a room in your apartment or home? How did everything go? I’m so glad mine and Jay’s is (practically) all finished. I definitely want more wardrobe space, it’s just finding out where to put it!
